Bookstores and E-books

Someone wrote that being in a bookstore is about indulging the senses and savouring the experience. It's the ability to feel that you are part of the reading community; knowing that every other shopper is there for the same reason as you, because they love and enjoy books.  Just as music brings music lovers together, a bookstore also connects all book lovers

Evenings such as book launches and new releases are crazy. Lots of noise and everybody is talking. Seems like most people who attend book launches are people who talk a lot. But then again, all they talk about is books, books and more books. It sometimes goes like this “have you read; you should read; any news on that book” and so it goes on and on and on.

I think the most wonderful part of a physical bookstore is the magic of picking a book by the cover, or spending whole days wandering in a bookstore.

A bookstore ranges from several hundred to several hundred thousands of titles. Trading can be done through a physical bookstore or an internet store. However, to keep a bookstore going is expensive work. There's rent for the shop-site, capital to buy books, bills like power, water and staff to maintain the business operations.  So this means that you're always going to find that books are more expensive than buying online.

Below is a comparison graph of printed books vs. e-books done by a research centre based in the USA.

According to Wikipedia, “bookselling is the commercial trading of books, the retail and distribution end of the publishing process. People who engage in bookselling are called booksellers or bookmen.

And

An E book (Electronic book) is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, and produced on, published through, and readable on computers or other electronic devices.

This for me is very interesting and I will be following up on this.
How did the e-book come about

Tweetdeck vs Hootsuite

There are quite a lot to say on this topic, and many have done so. Therefore, I’m not going to duplicate anything. I haven’t worked on these two social media dashboards as yet.  I had a look at them, downloaded Tweetdeck, but haven’t spend much time in really checking it out. So I’m going to summarize some of the articles I read.

At Sazbean.com, Sarah Worsham does a nice feature-by-feature breakdown of HootSuite and TweetDeck. I’ve added some more!

Hootsuite

HootSuite feature advantages:
  • Ability to schedule tweets
  • Updates faster
  • Provides robust statistics
  • Allows for the incorporation of additional social networks
  • Allows more multiple accounts to be controlled by multiple users

What to expect:

  •  Physically have to type in username once for it to register
  •  Browser-based
  •  Interface bulky & cumbersome
  • The value of Hootsuite’s tabbed interface is more suitable to an internet marketing specialist who is managing multiple accounts that would need them to be separated for organizational purposes

Tweetdeck

TweetDeck feature advantages:
  • Photo tweeting
  • Twitter interface
  • User feature
What to expect:

  •  Auto-complete function when typing in a Twitter username. The user has to be one of you following.
  •  Interface – cleaner & appealing
  •  The value of Tweetdeck is that it presents everything to you in one window, rather than organising by individual purposes.
Neutral features:
  • User interface
  • URL shorteners
Well, just by reading this, I’m going to take some time now and check it out. My findings will definitely follow this post. Keep watching…
